Time for some colour and crochet

Everything looks better when the sky is blue and there is some sunshine. A £2 bargain found in a charity shop on my way to an interview last week.

Crocheted coathangers.

I have been making these with a view to selling them once I get an etsy shop up and running, along with bunting and other bits and bobs. I looked around for a while for a simple design that I could adapt. Each coathanger will be slightly different. The pattern I've used was inspired by this one on Fiona's lovely blog.

So the first one I did was very similar to hers, except my flowers were lazier and didn't have leaves.

She uses double crochet, which makes a neat, dense fabric, but continuing the lazy theme, I find double crochet slow and more fiddly that crocheting trebles, so after completing the one above, I redesigned the pattern to suit me, using treble crochet (UK terms here). So the coathangers in the outside pictures at the top of the post were adapted from her pattern, but she has to take all credit. These hangers are all child-size, but I'm about to start on some adult-sized hangers, having just had a big batch arrive in the post.

  1. Hey Jen, welcome to the world of blogging.
Marmalade Rose was one of my very first inspirations too, Fi is so clever.....
Your coat hangers look wonderful I'm sure they would fly out of an etsy shop.
Sounds like you live in a nice part of the world. I'm sure you'll be looking forward to Spring.
I've just made your followers total a nice even 4.

    Have a great week,

    Claire :}

  2. Hiya Mrs,
Wow you have been busy with the crochet hangers, glad you like them, good luck with the sales. Your blogging etiquette is fine sweetie, lol.
One question though...Where did you find childrens size coat hangers? I've been after some for a while.
    Good luck with the blog.

  3. Thanks, Claire, that's very sweet of you. I don't expect I'll be able to put food and wine on the table, but I might at least be able to support my yarn habit a bit if I can sell some odds and ends. I need to get to grips with this blogging marlarkey a bit better, this is now my third attempt to leave you a comment (don't tell anyone)!

It is a lovely part of the world - we are lucky to have lived in quite a few.

Cheers for taking the time to visit and comment.

  4. Hi Fi,

Thanks for coming to comment. Your creations are great, I'm not sure I'd have the patience to do a tutorial to put on line, but I am extremely glad that people like you do - it inspired me to try something new that has now become a big part of my life.

The children's hangers were a one off from a private seller on ebay, so I guess it's just a case of looking. They are were great- quicker than the adult ones I have just started! I'm not sure if you can get kid's ones from the seller who sold me the adult ones, I'll have a look. I can highly recommend the seller, because there was a bit of confusion (caused by me) which she sorted out, very kindly. I'll get back to you. Thanks for popping by.

  5. I love your coat hangers, I also visit Fi and love her blog, fell in love with her felting, what a talented lady. I am knitting (and some crochet too) funky baby goods to sell in my etsy shop (when I have it up and running) so sort of know how you may be feeling.

  7. It's a lovely gate, Bealers and your benches may feature here soon as props - love your work. Thanks to you other lovely bloggers for your comments. Am I naughty to say that thanks to marmalade rose, the coathanger covers are better and will be better value than the ones just spotted in the CK catalogue of porn? Don't get me wrong, I love her style, she inspires me, but gimme a jumble sale any day (or a cheaper coathanger cover)
